Founded in July 2004, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (SMEE) now has more than 2,700 students at school and cultivated more than 11,600 graduates so far. At present, SMEE has set up six majors, namely Mechanical Design and Manufacturing, Electrical Automation Technology, Mechatronics Technology, Intelligent Building Engineering Technology, Industry Robot Technology, and Intelligence Control Technology, to meet the demands of the development of the industries of intelligent manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, new energy, smart city, and intelligent building, Among them, the majors of Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Intelligent Building Engineering Technology are among the first batch of national-level demonstration majors (2006) and the brand majors of Guangdong Province (2016); the major of Electrical Automation Technology is the demonstration major and brand major of Guangdong Province (2017); the major of Mechatronics Technology is the key major of Guangdong Province (2014) and the demonstration equipment manufacturing major of national vocational college granted by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the PRC (2017). In 2012, the "Guangdong Universities and Colleges Automation Instrument and Device Engineering Technology Development Center Construction Project" and "Shenzhen New Energy Discipline Construction Project" of SMEE were approved. By adhering to the concept of facing the market, serving development, and promoting employment, SMEE actively cultivates high-level technically skilled talent in electromechanical fields for national and local economic and social development.
SMEE owns excellent educational resources. It now has a total of 128 faculty members, including 12 senior-titled professors, 56 associate senior-titled professors; 39 doctors, 60 masters; 3 "Golden Teachers of Shenzhen Polytechnic University", with the proportion of teachers with two titles or certificates reaching 90%. It boasts 10 national-level quality courses, 6 provincial-level quality courses, 7,600-square-meter on-campus practical training sites, and practical training equipment worth more than RMB 118 million. SMEE has established the Automation Instrument and Device Engineering Center of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Modern Design and Manufacturing Technology Application, and the NDT Training Center of CHSNDT. In addition, it has also cooperated with internationally renowned companies in building the Festo Authorized and Certified Training (FACT, Germany), FANUC CNC System Application Training Center (Japan), Siemens Advanced Automation Technology Joint Model Demonstration Center, and ABB Automation Technology Training Workshop. It has built more than 131 off-campus internship bases in relevant enterprises in Shenzhen.
SMEE focuses on cultivating students' professional foundations, innovative capacity, practical ability, and vocational qualities and attaches importance to supervising teaching quality and creating a good academic environment. It has been rated as the "Advanced Unit" in college assessment many times and awarded as the "Advanced Unit" of the Shenzhen education system in 2009 and 2015. SMEE students have won numerous awards in various domestic and international competitions. In the past three years, they have obtained 31 awards above the provincial- and ministerial-level, including 1 international award and 13 national awards. In the comprehensive evaluation of Shenzhen Polytechnic University, SMEE has earned an "A" in teaching quality assessment for two consecutive years.
Enterprises' close attention on and eagerness for high-skilled application-oriented professionals and talent in recent years provide broad employment and vocational development space for graduates from the majors of electromechanical fields. Based on social and industrial needs, it actively explores effective approaches to cultivating high-skilled application-oriented professionals and talent, so that SMEE graduates enjoy good employment prospects. The average employment rate of SMEE students in the past five years was over 95%. Companies that have recruited students on campus include Shenzhen DJI Sciences and Technologies Ltd., Shenzhen Institute of Special Equipment Inspection and Test, Han's Laser Technology Industry Group Co., Ltd., Guangdong Dapeng LNG Company Limited, Shenzhen BTR New Energy and Materials Company Limited, and many other outstanding enterprises. According to the statistics of MyCOS' recentAnnual Report on Social Needs and Quality of Cultivation, the monthly income of SMEE students one year after graduation is among the highest of all schools of Shenzhen Polytechnic University.
In recent years, SMEE has been continuously deepening industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation based on the unique industrial environment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It has teamed up with a batch of renowned leading enterprises including Huawei, DJI, Inovance, TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology, Hikvision, BTR, and Han's Laser in establishing distinctive industry colleges, advancing to-be-recruited students' classes, enterprise staff customized training, and scientific research projects, developing professional standards and specialized courses, and exploring the new win-win model of talent cultivation. SMEE continues to implement the school-enterprise cooperative training model of "recruitment promotion + collaboration" and selects domestic large-scale outstanding enterprises, such as Inovance and DJI to together train "tailored professional talent" in batches, effectively expanding students' employment channels and improving the quality of employment.
SMEE attaches great importance to international education and focuses on broadening students' horizons. It has run a cooperative program together with the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Haking Wong Campus) for 12 years, i.e., "Advanced Diploma for Electrical Service Engineering", and students graduating from it can get graduation qualifications of both Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It has also carried out extensive international academic exchanges and cooperation with universities such as the University of Houston of the United States, the University of Wolverhampton of the United Kingdom, the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences of Germany, the University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg of Germany, the University of Ballarat of Australia, the Singapore Polytechnic, the Kun Shan University of Taiwan, China, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, Pro Skills Academy of Malaysia, and ORT Braude College of Israel. After graduation, students can apply for further study at the University of Wolverhampton of the United Kingdom, the Ballarat University of Australia, and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland.
