In a world where crises are escalating, one organization stands out as a beacon of hope—but they need your help. UK-Med, a globally renowned Emergency Medical Team, is on the frontlines of the most devastating humanitarian emergencies, from Ukraine to Gaza, Turkey, and beyond. But here's the challenge: as disasters grow more complex, the need for precise, actionable data has never been greater. That's where you come in.
UK-Med is seeking a Data Manager to join their mission, ensuring that every decision made in the heat of crisis is backed by reliable, high-quality data. This isn't just a job—it's a chance to be part of a team that saves lives by strengthening health systems in the most challenging environments.
But here's where it gets controversial: In the midst of chaos, how do we balance the urgent need for data with the ethical imperative to protect patient confidentiality? And this is the part most people miss—data isn’t just numbers; it’s the backbone of effective humanitarian response. Without it, even the most skilled medical teams can falter.
Role Overview
UK-Med’s Data Manager is the linchpin of their health information systems, ensuring that data is collected, analyzed, and reported with precision. This role is critical for evidence-based decision-making, supporting clinical teams, and meeting the stringent standards of the WHO, Ministry of Health, and internal protocols. The position requires full-time deployment for 6–8 weeks at a time, often in high-pressure settings like Ukraine. Longer availability is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
The Data Manager will:
- Design and implement robust data management systems tailored to emergency response needs.
- Develop and adapt data collection tools to align with project goals.
- Lead the creation of Standard Operating Procedures for data management.
- Provide technical support to medical teams, ensuring seamless data flows.
- Train staff on data collection, quality assurance, and security.
- Analyze health data to guide program direction and clinical decisions.
- Prepare regular reports in collaboration with Medical Coordinators and MEAL teams.
- Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality and safeguarding policies.
- Support HR processes for field data teams, including recruitment and training.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate combines technical prowess with a passion for humanitarian work. But here’s a thought-provoking question: Can someone truly excel in this role without firsthand experience in emergency settings? While technical skills are essential, UK-Med values candidates who’ve faced the unpredictability of crises head-on.

- Minimum 3 years in data management, preferably in humanitarian or health emergencies.
- Proven ability to support multiple facilities or field hospitals with efficient data systems.
- Strong organizational skills and independence in challenging environments.
- Proactive problem-solving and willingness to deploy internationally at short notice.
- High integrity, commitment to safeguarding, and cultural sensitivity.
