It was a pleasure to present again at Gondola Day 2024. Together with my colleague Donatien Hanssens we shared insights about the latest developments in the Belgian FMCG market.Some of the key take-outs:·The spike in consumer prices drove shoppers to Private Label and made them more susceptible to buying promotions. As a result, more than 40% of all volume sold is private label and almost 20% of all value sales are bought on promotion. ·More promotion sales have not contributed to increased baseline sales. In fact, incrementalities across discount levels remain lower compared to previous years. There is room to improve promo efficiency across many categories. ·Regular price elasticities are declining again as shoppers have moved to buy private label or cheaper alternatives. However, high out of pocket categories without strong Private Label alternatives continue to be confronted with strong to moderate price elasticities. How do Private Labels perform in Europe since the market experienced strong inflationary pressures? This week, I had the pleasure to represent #nielseniq at the PLMA Trade Show in Amsterdam, where I shared the latest Private Label evolutions and insights across Europe. One thing is clear, 2022 is the start of a new market dynamic providing the right momentum for retail brands.I would like to thank the organization of Private Label Manufacturers Association - International Council (PLMA),Melanie Paijmans and Peggy Davies in specific, for allowing me to present during this great event.
