This delicious seafood sauce recipe is my go-to for any seafood boil. It's a super easy recipe to whip up and I always have the ingredients handy at any time!

I tend to keep a container of this in the refrigerator on a regular basis during crawfish season here in Louisiana.

Seafood is often boiled during that time, but this delightful dipping sauce is so good with virtually anything! Even just French fries or fried chicken, it's a taste the kids love it!

They say it's one of the best parts of your favorite seafood boil.

This delicious sauce was created to pair with my boiled crawfish recipe and my fried crab claws.

Hint: Make sure to sprinkle the seasoning over the wet ingredients. If you put it in in a pile, then it can clump up and be hard to mix.

🔄 Substitutions and Variations

  • Horseradish - if you take away the mayonnaise and add horseradish you'll have more of a shrimp co*cktail sauce.
  • Spicy- the quantities in this recipe will not give you a very spicy sauce. It has a slight bite to it, which kids can handle. If you like more heat though feel free to add more hot sauce or even some red pepper flakes.
  • Garlic Cloves - Add some minced garlic for another flavor dimension.
  • Soy Sauce - You could use soy sauce in place of the Worcestershire sauce for the umami flavor (salty flavors).
  • Old Bay Seasoning - try using this seasoning instead of the Creole type. You may need to add some Cayenne for more power.
  • Olive Oil - If you like a thinner seafood sauce you could try adding some olive oil to thin it out.
  • Cajun Seasonings - always good in any dips and sauces.
  • Black Pepper - for a little more spice.
  • White Wine - some people like to add a teaspoon or two.
  • Chili Powder - for added heat, not too much though if you like a milder sauce. Or use Chili Sauce.
  • Lemon Pepper - for added flavor.
  • Brown Sugar - A little sweet molasses type flavor.

🔌 Equipment

The only equipment you'll need for this recipe is a mixing bowl, a medium bowl will hold it, or if you want to get wild with your whisk use a large bowl - and naturally you'll need a whisk.

🧊 Storage

Add this easy seafood sauce to an airtight container and place in the refrigerator. It will be good for up to 3 days.

Mayonnaise typically doesn't hold up to freezing, it affects the texture and becomes a bit weird and separated.

👩‍🍳 FAQ's

What is seafood sauce made of?

There are a few varieties. Some seafood sauces are more tomatoey - like a co*cktail sauce. The seafood sauce recipe I have in this post is for a Cajun inspired dip that is paired with a seafood boil. It has a mayonnaise as the main base ingredient that is spiced up.

What is Bloves Sauce?

It's a prepackaged sauce that you can buy in some stores. It has rich, buttery flavor and is heavy on the spices. It pairs well with seafood.

What kind of hot sauce do you use?

I usually have two types in my home. I have Tabasco sauce which I LOVE on my eggs. Then I have Louisiana Hot Sauce which I love to use in pretty much everything else! Crystal is another good sauce from Louisiana.

What can I use instead of Creole Seasoning?

If you don't have Creole Seasoning handy, you could use a regular seasoning blend (like Season All) and add some cayenne pepper. I actually like to make my own homemade version of Creole Seasoning - see the recipe here. It is made with simple ingredients I bet you have in your spice drawer.

What kind of seafood will this dip pair well with?

I use it for any seafood boil recipes (e.g. crab legs) or fried seafood. Here's a list of my favorite seafood recipes that come to mind:

Awesome seafood dishes to pair with this sauce

  • Fried Crab Claws
  • Boiled Crawfish
  • Fried Catfish Nuggets
  • Oyster Po'Boy
  • Cajun Fish Fry
  • Fried Crawfish Poboy
  • Redfish Tacos

Try this Cajun Butter Sauce, for dipping your seafood (or wings) into. Or this Tartar Sauce.

💡 Tips

Expert Tip: If you have a variety of guests who like their seafood sauce from being no heat to super spicy rather make it with no heat and offer hot sauce for those with a spicy palate to up the spice level of their seafood dip on their plate.
