Oven-baked rainbow trout filets- juicy, tender and packed full of protein! This rainbow trout recipe is a perfect option for those who are eating low-carb or gluten-free. In under 15 minutes, you will have a delicious seafood dinner ready to serve!
Oven-Baked Rainbow Trout
I love to eat and cook rainbow trout! This white fish is super tasty and full of healthy omega 3 fatty acids which are great to help boost your metabolism and control your blood pressure.
Since rainbow trout is mild in flavor, it makes it a great fish to try out a couple of different seasoning combos. I usually prefer to keep it simple with some butter, salt, and pepper. Sometimes, though, I love to slice a few lemons and place them on top of the trout to infuse a whole other layer of flavor while it’s baking. Also, check out my recipes for homemade Cajun seasoning and Taco seasoning – you can rub the trout with those spice mixes before baking, it will be awesome!
I’ve been wanting to try adding a couple of fresh herbs like rosemary or parsley to give the fish a little bit of earthiness. If you try this out, please let me know in the comments what you used and how it turned out!
How To Cook Rainbow Trout
While your oven is preheating to 425 degrees, line a baking sheet with parchment paper so the fish is less likely to stick (I’m a huge fan of parchment paper and hardly ever use foil these days, click here to get parchment paper on Amazon).
Before you do anything to the fish itself, make sure you clean the filets by making sure there are no bones left in the rainbow trout and the skin is rid of any fish scales.
After you have cleaned the fish, place the rainbow trout fillets on the baking sheet in a single layer with the skin side down.
Next, brush the rainbow trout fillets with melted butter and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
Cooking Tips
- You want to make sure you cook the fish skin side down
- Depending on the girth of the fish fillets make sure to keep an eye on the fish and adjust the times as needed. It is very easy to overcook it and dry it out.
- The skin is edible (assuming the rainbow trout was well cleaned and there are no scales left)
- If you don’t want to eat the skin, the cooked trout separates from the skin very easily – just eat the fish and the skin will be left on your plate :)
What To Serve With This Rainbow Trout Recipe
To complete these oven-baked rainbow trout filets, I decided to serve this fish with a side of Greek lemon potatoes and microwave green beans. Oh my goodness, it was absolutely delicious. What really made this rainbow trout burst with flavor was my easy homemade mango salsa that I made to put on top of the fish- it’s out of this world!
You can also serve some of these side dishes with this oven-baked rainbow trout:
- Air fryer baked potatoes
- Roasted broccoli
- Oven-roasted acorn squash
