Is LMU a division 1? ›

Whether it is cheering on our LMU Lions Division 1 athletic teams, participating in one of the many intramural or club sports or just playing a game of pickup soccer, we are always looking for new ways to “Get in the Game.”

LMU Athletics is home to 20 NCCA Division I sports teams and seeks to foster camaraderie and a motivational environment for student-athletes to develop confidence and leadership skills, on and off the field.

Every one of LMU's teams are above the fed rate. Eleven LMU teams registered perfect 100 GSR marks, including men's tennis, men's water polo, men's and women's cross country and track, softball, women's volleyball, women's swimming, women's basketball, and women's water polo.

Shortly thereafter, Marymount California announced plans to shut down. Marymount California officials cited shrinking student enrollment, exacerbated by the pandemic, as the reason for its closure.

The six sports that will be discontinued are: men's cross country, men's rowing, men's track and field, women's rowing, women's swimming, and women's track and field.
