Keto butter cookies for the holidays

Who doesn’t love a good cookie for Christmas or any holiday?

Keto cut out sugar cookies are a necessity in our household. In fact, I grew up on Grandma’s cut out butter cookie recipe. They’re my dad’s favorite cookie at Christmas, and we’ve used the same cookie cutters since I was a small child.

Now that my daughter and I eat gluten-free and sugar-free we needed another option! It’s a family tradition to make the holiday-shaped cookies and frost them uniquely. This recipe is delicious and so much fun.

To be sure, it’s extremely difficult for me not to eat thedough, lick the frosting, and eat several cookies during this process. It’s even harder for a kid not to lick the spoon and sample the cookies as they’re made! So many of my recipes come out of the need to provide a healthier, tasty alternative for my daughter.

Family traditions: Frosting the cookies

Frosting the cookies at Christmas is a laughter-filled, colorful tradition kids look forward to every year! For me, Christmas traditions are all about family and home and being present to enjoy time together.

We have busy outdoor activities like ice skating, snowman building, Christmas lights viewing, and so many more. Don’t neglect the cozy around the kitchen projects!

Whether we like it or not, food brings us together. Of course, I love food as does anyone, but it makes it difficult for those with allergies or health restrictions. This recipegives us a chance for everyone in the family to participate and share in laughter together.

When we make cookies, I let the kids select the frosting colors to use. We generally separate the frosting out into about 4-5 different colors. You can find some great natural food coloring options or use the normal set from the grocery store.

🔪 Instructions

How to make keto cut out sugar cookies

Cut out cookies can seem intimidating, but they’re really actually pretty easy! All you have to do is follow the steps, and you’ll get a pretty, buttery, cookie anyone would love to eat at a holiday party.

First, get all the ingredients and supplies out and preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Second, prepare 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Then, take out a large bowl and beat together the butter and sweetener. Add the eggs in one at a time beating them as you go.

After that, take another bowl and whisk together the almond flour, gelatin, salt, and baking soda. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix them in slowly until everything is fully incorporated and a dough is formed. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least half an hour.

I take half the dough out to roll to about 1/4 of an inch thick and leave the rest in the fridge to continue to chill.

Tip: Roll the dough out sprinkling on some extra almond flour. If it sticks you can roll it between two pieces of parchment paper handling it as little as possible.

⏲ Baking time

Place them on the baking sheets about an inch or so apart, and bake for 10-12 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit or until the edges only just start to brown.

Let the cookies cool for 20 minutes on the pan until they can be moved to a cooling rack.

Once completely cooled, you and the kids can top your cookies with your favorite keto frosting and toppings.

🧁 Keto frosting

To top the cookies, use your favorite keto frosting recipe, or you can use the one I like for this recipe. It’s super-easy and basically involves mixing up the ingredients.

First, take out a medium bowl and use a hand mixer to mix the cream cheese and butter together until no lumps remain.

Second, add in the sweetener, vanilla extract, and heavy whipping cream. Mix it all up on high for 2-3 minutes. This will whip up the cream and create a good texture for frosting.

Next, divide the frosting into separate bowls if you wish to color it. Use natural food coloring or the best you can get and blend into the frosting.

My decorating skills could use some work, but it’s lots of fun and kids love the activity. Spread the frosting on the cookies with a knife or use a piping bag.

Have fun decorating!

Family time around the holidays

I have some of my favorite familymemories around Christmas time. It can be difficult to plan activities and be actively involved with the kids and other family members, but it is so important!

Not everything has to be Pinterest perfect, mine are not. However, my kids LOVE to take time to play a board game, playbasketball, or make cookies. My mindsethas to change to make time to separate work time and time for family.

Cookie baking and everyday activities are priceless memories to a child when you do them together! So have fun, be silly, and enjoy your time together. These cookies are perfect for any special holiday. They will remember the fun and time together.
