For a movie that rode to the box office on a (now award-winning) marketing campaign about people doing creepy smiles in random places and not much else, Smile (2022) was much better and smarter than most people would have guessed. The end didn't exactly leave a lot of room open for a direct sequel, but no matter. The same infectious phantom demon monster tears through a new group of hot young people in Smile 2 (which is also doing the viral marketing thing).
In his 7/10 IGN review, critic A.A. Dowd wrote that "Smile 2 doesn’t quite match its sadistically effective predecessor in the scare department, because once you’ve seen one phantom doppelganger grinning like the Cheshire Cat, you’ve seen them all. But the movie works as a nasty portrait of the downside of music-biz fame, and it builds to an ending deserving of every crooked smile it earns."

Will There Be a Smile 3?
Never say never. In an interview with Screen Rant, director Parker Finn hinted that there could be an opportunity to make Smile a legit franchise: "I do think that there are so many exciting places that Smile could go. [...] Hopefully, if they embrace it, I think that there could be a really interesting future for Smile."
